I'm helping a friend with his late 68 (trim tag August 8). I looked through my fourth edition 68-69 JG and didn't find my answer, but could just have missed it. which style wiper door actuator should this have--the cylindrical one or the double pie pan type?

Re: Late 68 wiper door actuator
My July 18 built 68 had the cylindrical one which I believe was original when the shaft broke a few years ago. I found a correct replacement through a question on this site. I still have the old one and the box the new one came in. I'll post more info from the box later if it's useful.

Re: Late 68 wiper door actuator
Rich when my 68's shaft broke and after I installed the replacement the pan type I threw the original away. Later after becoming a NCRS member and learning that original parts are valuable, I wish that I had kept it. If my original was still on my 68 today and the shaft broke today I would attempt to repair it.Last edited by Jim T.; August 2, 2016, 09:57 AM.- Top

Re: Late 68 wiper door actuator
The new one from GM Restoration parts has the box marked 653153 WPR DR ACTUATOR YR:69E
I saved my old one with the intention of getting it repaired some day. You know how that goes. I think the difference between the original and The "69E" version is the shaft has a larger diameter on the new one but I can't remember now.

Re: Late 68 wiper door actuator
There is a slight difference in the canister where the lid crimps on. I have a repo on my April 68 car but saved the original. There's an ad in the Driveline from a P. Demmel of Plano Texas who restores them for $150.00 and takes 3 to 4 weeks. Haven't sent mine out yet. Has anyone used this service? Results ? Rich- Top

Re: Late 68 wiper door actuator
Any possibility of late 68 having the 5/16 shaft? My June car has one. I have always assumed it to be wrong- Top

Re: Late 68 wiper door actuator
I believe mid to late 68 s used the 5/16 shaft, not sure where the mid point is by serial number but I think a June car fits. My April car is a three owner with 37,000 original miles and it has the 1/4" shaft so I must be close to the end of the early cars. First model year cars are fun. Rich- Top
