    Side view mirror

A beautiful evening here on long Island NY so the wife and I went for a real nice ride, stopped at a winery, had some snacks and made our way home. After pulling into the garage I got out and closed the drivers side door and the mirrored glass from the side view mirror fell off, bounced down the paint on the door and finally rested on the floor. Fortunately there was no damage on the door and the glass mirror didn't break. It looks like the adhesive to stick the thing on was a hard epoxy of sorts and just didn't stick to the glass. Any suggestions for a good adhesive to put it back?? Thanks!!

    Hi Tom,
Its a miracle nothing was damaged and the mirror didn't break. I used Permatex Ultra Black RTV Gasket Maker to hold my new dated mirror glass on my 73. Made sure all the old stuff was removed. Its been on for over three months and seems fine. I have had the car out in extreme heat at car shows and on some rough road. The door has been open and closed as normal many times. Still sticking !!
    Regards,
    Jimmy

you should make sure that everything is tight before using the rtv to secure the mirror. You can tap the metal tab that holds pressure against the ball.

Tom, I would use the same stuff the windshields are installed with, The silicone gasket maker stuff may damage the mirror backing. I have seen what it can do to painted metal when used to seal up leaking windshields, it takes time to do this.
