73 Windshield Wiper Motor Plastic Part??

I removed my wiper motor today from the car to clean it up. While I was taking it out of the engine bay I noticed that one of the two clear plastic push pins was barely in the hole. I tried to push it in so it was as flush as the other, but it won't go in all the way. Do these pins hold some thing in place underneath? I can see a piece of plastic in the hole but no hole to let the pin go in all the way? It appears to have been that way on the car for a long time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully it's nothing major. I've attached some before and after pics with the plastic piece in question. Wipers and washers work fine. Right now I'm waiting on the new foam gasket to come from CC, then I can reinstall.
    Thanks,
    Jimmy

Sorry I misspelled windshield in the title, but I don't know how to fix it!

Jimmy, Your washer motor is a replacement as evidenced by the black plastic cylinder. However, my April 73 car as is yours has the same w/pump with the two plastic pins. This pump has a white cylinder as it should and is the original pump. My Sept 72 73 w/motor also is the original one but it does not have the two plastic pins.

          Thanks Russ,
I figured the washer motor was replaced. Glad to know the w/pump is ok for the car.

            Jimmy,
I believe that those plastic plugs are there simply to fill the holes that would be used for a '69 that has the separate headlamp washer solenoid. Only '69 used it but the holes were drilled and plugged for other years.

              Thank you Jeff,
You are probably right, Alan Struck suggested the same thing to me on the CF. Isn't it strange though that the earlier 73's didn't have them, as Russ S. mentioned above in his response. But the later cars did. You would think it would be the other way around. I did get up enough nerve to remove the pump cover on mine to see what was under there, after some cloaking from Russ S.You can see in the attachment that the green plastic part was not letting the lower push pin/plug go in all the way, so I just trimmed a little bit from the tip of it, and it fit without putting any pressure on the green plastic part. It is apparent in the picture that someone before tried to force the plug in, which cracked the green part. I repaired it with some loctite and reassemble everything. Wipers/ washers working fine.

Jimmy..I wouldn't get my hopes up on the new foam gasket that you are waiting on. I too ordered "a gasket" didn't know it was foam. Check your hole that the wiper motor goes thru. The original gasket is very thin, but is NOT foam. I reused my original gasket. Just too much differeance with the foam one plus it will stick out more.

                Just my .02 cents.

PS: Russ saw it too and wasn't impressed with the foam.

Thanks Pete, but I'm afraid it's too late. I already installed the motor using the foam gasket as they call it. I wondered about using it too, but I had no choice. My original completely disintegrated when I took out the motor. Nothing but dried out bits and pieces. I've attached a couple pics showing what you can see of it front and rear.
