    1970 Rubber Fuel Lines

Is there anything special about the rubber fuel lines between the steel lines and the fuel pump on a 350 horsepower car? Any markings or ribs etc?

    Thanks

The only thing special is that they are rubber FUEL hoses versus just rubber hoses. They are made and rated for fuel service. DR REBUILD has some nice ones.

You can also buy HD fuel hoses rated for higher pressures, which are used on the modern fuel injected engines. You can also buy ones with a different rubber compound that is more resistant to alcohol blended fuel.

I believe that one or both of the 1970 fuel line-to-pump rubber hoses was a MOLDED hose (except LT-1). I think that Dr. Rebuild has reproductions.

Not sure what the configuration of the hose in question is but I used a piece of fuel line and made my own rather than getting the molded one (LS5 by the way). As a result while on the way to Carlisle I got caught in a rainstorm and the line kinked which starved the engine. Breaking down is no fun, in the rain worse! Get the correctly configured molded one. Have fun!!

The original fuel line to pump hose on my early production 1970 LT1 was NOT molded, but it kinked early on and I replaced it with the molded over-the-counter piece. More recently I replaced it again with hose more resistant to alcohol even though I avoid alcohol laced fuel as best I can. I have replaced the tank to fuel line hose with the more modern hose as well. The judging days for my car are done, but even if I were still in the game the safety considerations overwhelm the potential points deduction. Duke Williams has posted the ASTM (American Society Testing Materials) number for the modern fuel line frequently on this board. Look it up. Don't risk your car, possessions or persons for the sake of originality.
