Thanks Joe. Believe it or not, the valve covers are the last remaining fluid leak on the old LS5; they weep a bit down the back end of each cylinder head. So I'll try the FelPro 1630s and see if they stop the leak.

I have also found that if there exists any distortion, at all, in the valve covers, getting them to seal 100% is very difficult. I have found that attempts to straighten them, other than flattening at the bolt holes, is usually futile. Big block valve covers are worse in this regard than small block due to their increased size and consequent lesser "torsional rigidity". Often, the distortion might not even be visibly discernible.

Something I've considered in the past are cast aluminum valve covers which mimic the appearance of the original stamped steel covers. Of course, these would not be the way to go if judging is a consideration. However, I like the vastly increased torsional rigidity of these covers which greatly lessens the possibility of distortion. The reason I never actually tried these covers is that they either had no baffling in the PCV orifices or they had what I regarded as deficient baffling.

You might consider these from Speedway. I have used their small block version for years and they are great.
