    63 Brake/Clutch Pedal Play

Good day everyone, finally had the SWC on the road this past weekend and one of the things that caught my attention right away was that the clutch and brake pedal arms both seem to have quite a bit of side to side play. Had a look underneath and noticed first off that the brake arm has what looks like a collar pin that slides through the arm holding it in place on the bracket. It was missing the clip at the end. Problem fixed but still have quite a bit of play. Was going to purchase all new collars/bushings but not sure if that will correct the issue.

Being my first classic would like to hear some feedback as to how much play if any should there be from side to side and if anyone has any suggestions as to what else I should be looking at....

    Thanking everyone in advance.

A couple of things; first off there are nylon bushings in the collars of those pedals that ensure smooth and tight movement; they could well be worn or missing. But, worse, the clutch pedal has a weld at the top that is notorious for weakening and even separating (red arrow in first picture). A common C2 problem requiring a reweld or a new pedal (about $75)... Often its best just to pull the whole pedal support ass'y out and overhaul all of it.

The nylon bushing can be seen at the horizontal pedal cross shaft in second picture; you also need the proper end clip - shown laying on the ground at the far right in second picture. This 'tensions' the cross shaft pieces properly.
