    66-427 power steering pump

Would anyone know if a GM part number exists for a rebuilt power steering pump for a 1966 427/390 HP application?
If a GM pump is not available does anyone have a good source for a quality replacement pump?
Are the pumps usually sold separate from the reservoir?
Are pump rebuild kits available and are they worth the investment?

    Thanks much for the assistance.

Yes, rebuilt pumps from GM are available for your application. Basically, these are Delco Parts System parts which are also available through the GM parts system.

The part number for the pump without reservoir is GM #19318694 aka Delco #36P0168

The part number for the pump with reservoir is GM #19319938 aka Delco #36P1412

These can be obtained from any GM or AC/Delco parts dealer.

Be aware, though, that the reservoir supplied with the pump might not be correct with respect to every facet and nuance of detail as far as NCRS judging goes. It will be substantially correct but, perhaps, not 100% correct. If you have an original pump for your car, your best bet might be to obtain a pump without reservoir and transfer your reservoir to the new pump.

Pump rebuild kits are available. Assuming that all of the parts not supplied in the kit are OK in your pump, then you should be able to successfully rebuild your pump. Otherwise, you're probably better off with a professionally rebuilt pump.

      Thank you Joe.
I will order just the pump, the original reservoir is fine.
Is there anything special about changing out just the pump, or is it a straight forward "remove and replace"?
      Regards,
      Rich

If you mean installing the original reservoir on the new pump, it's very straight-forward. I think the seals and gaskets required will be supplied with the rebuilt pump. If not, you can purchase these in a kit. The procedure is well-covered in the Chevrolet Service or Overhaul Manuals.

          Joe,
Correct that is what I meant. Thank you.

Update on the GM part number for the pump without reservoir (GM #19318694), GM has advised me that this part is discontinued and no longer available.
Still looking for suggestions on a quality supplier of replacement pumps.
            Thanks again for the help.

Rock Auto says they have them available. If not, go with one remanufactured by A-! Cardone. A-1 Cardone does very high quality rebuilt parts.

                Joe,
I checked Rock Auto web site and located the AC/Delco part number. I will get it on order. I have ordered from them before and have always been very satisfied .
Thanks again for all the help.
