Hi everyone! This is my first post on NCRS forum about my 1966 Coupe. The car was purchased new by my grandfather and is currently undergoing restoration. I have owned it for 20 years; the car has been garaged its whole life and is overall in good condition with 50k miles. The original motor was lost long ago in the 70's but I did locate a date-correct block and heads for it. Its second owner, my uncle, had painted it Nassau Blue in the 80's so it's now going back to its original Silver Pearl. With this restoration I am not chasing down correct air cleaner wingnuts for $100 but am trying to get most items I can correct when I have the ability to do so without unreasonable expense. It is an Automatic-Air car but I dislike driving automatics so the Powerglide is going on a shelf so it can return to original spec someday. It's getting a 5-speed for now so I can enjoy driving it.
So that's the background--on to the question. I am ordering new tinted glass for the car. Its VIN is S120742 which is early May '66 production. Only one window on the car was known to have been replaced and was incorrect--the driver vent. As far as I know, the rest of the car's glass was original. Unfortunately, the back window shattered when it was removed prior to recording its window etching info.
I understand that typically the logo is read from the inside of the car and was etched on the outside. On my car, however, the original windshield, passenger glass, and passenger vent are etched outside and read inside, while the driver window is read from inside but also etched on the inside. Another issue is that the windshield and door windows are all coded LA (March '66), while the passenger vent is coded VJ (December '65). How should I instruct the etching to be done for this car with the abnormal driver side etching location and the oddball date code on the passenger vent? Should I just tell them to etch them all on the outside of the car with the date code "LA"?
I am considering both Auto City and Pilkington; both offer correct logos. Pilkington currently has only the windshield available but Auto City has all of it. Any recommendations of one over the other? Thank you!
Many thanks!
Henry
