    Jacking The Front

Using a floor jack I want to raise the front of the car both wheels off the ground, where do I place the jack so I don't damage anything under there Thanks You

You always damage something. Jack one side and rest on a jack stand then do the same on the other side. Brake on and in gear.

Whatever you do, do not put the jack under the third arm.

        John,
I have a thick rubber pad that I put on the floor jack and then under the front X member and it doesn't scratch a thing. I then put set jacks under each A arm and they have rubber on them also. I only lower the car enough to touch the set jacks.

Like many, I did not like jacking the car with a single jack front and rear...........although I did it for years without any issues. Mainly on non-Corvette cars. I then decided to buy and use a second floor jack. Now I put one jack on each front side rail and jack up the front, jacking a little bit on each side up to the height I want. Set the car on stands, lower the jacks and move them to the rear of the frame. Then do the same side-to-side jacking procedure.

Works very well, car lifts straight up nicely, you do not damage anything, you have the safety of two jacks, and the difference in time is almost nil. Both my floor jacks are old USA made ones with solid frames and saddle, and heavy duty rams. I use a block of treated 2x4 wood in each jack saddle to prevent metal to metal contact.

          FWIW.

            John,
I use this saddle to straddle the third arm. It is constructed of 2"X4" square tubing with a 1" pin. Rubber cushions prevent scratching the crossmember.
