    Re: Minor scratch removal

It depends on how deep the scratches are and if it is single stage lacquer or something with a clear coat. I use these products for my '64's lacquer single stage paint, if deep you need a range of grit size, if not use a 2000 or 3000. The trial sizes are enough and are not too expensive.

I have also used Meguiars scratch and swirl remover with good luck on clear coat paint.

      Mike:

I use Mequiars ScratchX 2.0. However, it is best on minor cosmetic scratches. If that is all you are dealing with then this product works well.

But I would seriously consider Mike J's previous post about the paint material and the depth of the scratches. That is going to make a big difference in your results.

As Mentioned, I use this Mequiars product on acrylic lacquer with good results. I also use it on my other road cars and it handles cosmetic scratches and rub marks quite well.

Assuming the scratches are minor (but dealing with one's opinion) Meguiars #7 is my choice. I can not imagine that anything left by the hard top as being minor. I'm picturing you may need to sand and buff starting with 1500 os 2000 followed by Meguiars #2 then #5 and #7.
I have not seen #5 in a long time. This is lacquer? Urethane will take more effort and if cleared be careful not to break thru.
