Hi all,
As you had better know if you have a 1957-62 fuelie, all brass radiators used the 549 RC-1 7# cap and other manufacturer's, Stant, Eaton, etc., 7# equivalents. When aluminum radiators were introduced in 1960, a 13# ALUMINUM cap came with them. The aluminum cap was so that there would not be a bimetalism corrosion effect where two different metals (iron and aluminum) together effectively create a battery. The 13# cap for 1960 was the 362 cap and this was superceded by the 306 cap after early 1961.
The caps you see for multi hundreds of dollars currently on eBay, auctions 311314305903 and 311643521589, for instance, are supposedly for 1958-59 Fuel Injection Corvettes. Compare this with auction 222043440429 and many others on eBay. This will damage your wallet, but not your car.
I can only say that this is almost as bad as those who advertise AC 44FF Corvair spark plugs as correct for your Fuel Injection Corvette. The 44FF plugs were "correct" for Fuel Injection only for 1960 aluminum head engines that were never released to the public! If you used the 44FF plugs on your FI Corvette, then know that these are two threads longer and could cause your piston to hit the plug!
Caveat Emptor is all I can say.
Happy eBaying!
Bob
