    Holley clutch head screw removal

Working on rebuilding the 69 tri-power carbs and from the secondary metering plate, got 5 out of the 6 clutch head screws removed using a special 5/32s clutch head bit. Of course, the 6th one is the most stubborn. Any tips on removal? Don't want to strip the screw head. Thanks, Chris

Eureka! 3/8ths impact did the trick. Better tool control than by hand combined impact action was they key.

      Chris,

You did not ask but make sure those metering plates are flat. if the gasket sandwich leaks the carburetor will leak fuel internally causing a rich condition.

Timothy, thanks for the tip. You would not believe what it looked like behind the metering plate. 47 year of gunk.

Chris, when you rebuild make sure you use Holley gaskets not aftermarket. I rebuilt my 3810 over the winter and had gas leaking from the secondary metering circuit when I fired up the car this spring. Long story short, I found that the aftermarket gasket I used for the first rebuild was too thin (measured .016", Holley OEM measures .031"), this caused poor sealing of the secondary metering plate. By the way, no leaks with the new rebuild using the Holley gasket.

Thanks Phil. Yes, I'm using the Holley rebuild kits.
