    '67 glove box removal

Lots of previous threads about this in general, but a specific question: Do you have to remove the 2 screws that hold the lamp assembly to top of box like you have to remove the other screws around the upper part of box assembly to get it loose? In other words, do these 2 screws screw into upper frame or not?(I'm planning on cutting the wire to the lamp and reconnecting rather than trying to disconnect the wire from lamp socket.)
    Thanks

    Bill:

If I recall correctly they attach to the upper frame and you should be able to leave them in place --- if I am wrong it's no big deal to remove them ---

Why are you cutting the wire to the lamp? Its a bit of a tight fit if it is original but well worth keeping intact unless you absolutely have to cut it...the connector is not that hard to remove from the socket but be careful not to break or bend it (the socket and plunger assembly that is). The reproductions / replacements are not very good quality --- so keep your original if at all possible....

    Regards
    Bill

Cutting BEHIND glove box liner where it won't show when reconnected. Cutting BECAUSE I understand you can damage the "clip" if disconnected and may never be the same.. But thanks for thoughts. Still no definite answer as to whether the 2 screws have to be removed . If they go all the way to frame, would have to be removed along with other screws or box would still be held fast to top frame and couldn't pull glove box out.

        Re: '67 glove box removal

As I indicated they don't need to come out ----- they just seat into the frame that will be removed --- not into the eyebrow ---

But a clarification.... the lamp assembly "snaps" into the hole that is part of the frame.... no screws are used to hold it......the screws (two chrome) serve to hold the striker plate in place and seat into the frame itself....the frame is held in place on the eyebrow by six screws and six clips. The clips snap onto tabs on the eyebrow .....see below....you can see three of the clips on the left side of the eyebrow....(three on the other side) -------and no provision for the two screws that hold the striker in place ------bottom line the two screws for the striker plate seat into the frame and not any part of the eyebrow ....

The photo below shows a bare frame --- the frame has an accommodation for the light --- as mentioned the light and plunger snap into the that hole and the striker plate is held in place by two screws just forward and above the hole for the light mechanism....you can see the two screw holes in the photo....

This photo shows that the light just snaps into the frame ---- the screws only hold the striker and can be left in place ....
