Re: C2 Wheel bearings - Timken

I've been fortunate to acquire Timken USA bearings from one of my suppliers. Not sure how long this will happen.

FYI, here's the list of Timken Manufacturing facilities worldwide.....http://www.timken.com/en-us/about/Pages/Locations.aspx

I've also pasted it into this thread, as of today's date, so if & when things change in the future we have a baseline. Note there are still many Plants in the US......which is where some of our wheel bearings may be sourced.

That's a no no in the airplane repair business. Substituting the original PMA parts (which I agree may be the same in many instances) would put you in serious hot water with the FAA if they found out about it or if there were an accident. The extra cost of the parts is liability protection (Airplanes). I know people do it, and that's great till there is a problem. Sorry OP did not mean to get off topic, but if you own a plane that's a different animal entirely from working on your car privately.

        Dan,
I agree 100%. Timken is on all my US airplanes and I have refused to do inspections on friends airplanes that shop their Plane hardware at HOME DEPOT. That also gives the insurance companies a way out.

Re: C2 Wheel bearings - Timken

Recently purchased a Timken #203F for the front bearing in a GM midyear alternator. This bearing in the Timken box was a "NSK"#6203 made in China bearing. Since Timken had someone else print their name and supply the box, not sure what they really made. Their internet website didn't work either.

That bearing is a ball bearing. I don't think that Timken ever manufactured ball bearings (although they do market them). Tapered roller bearings are Timken's forte although they also make other type bearings.
