1965 corvette with Air small block, battery tray attachment question

The battery tray on an air car for 1965 is attached to the driver side. From what I can tell, according to the service manual, 6 screws were used, part number 9422606, which simple screwed into the frame. Is this correct?

For non air cars there were bolts used with nuts secured to the inside of the frame.

Is this correct? Air cars used more of a sheet metal screw, 9422606, to fasten the battery tray to the left side frame rail in 1965?

That is correct. AC cars the screws were a self-threading fine thread type and screwed directly into the frame............so use some discretion when tightening them down (in other words "go easy")

Better yet, use a torque wrench and apply the torque value specified in the AIM. Then, one can't miss.

Does anyone know where the correct 9422606 screws can be purchased? Most corvette parts retailers seem to sell the incorrect bolt that is
used for the right side, non air cars.

I would measure the hole size in the frame and then check McMasters or similar fastener store for bolts that will work. Also call Paragon and see what they have.

If all fails, give Richard Fortnier a call. Contact info in the Driveline.

PS: Some folks don't like the fit of the bolts in the frame or have stripped/oversize holes in the frame. Threadserts can be used successfully in these places. PS2: Paragon #1438. 5/16 x 18 x 3/4 inch, E headmark, indented hex with captured washer. About a buck each.

You won't find NOS because, as far as I can determine, GM #9422606 was never available from GM in SERVICE.

5/16-24 x 7/8" recessed 1/2" hex. Self starting tip. VERY HARD to find. Original observed headmarkings ((D)), IM, 3 Dots and a few more.
