    60 Corvette flasher unit...

while I was repainting the coves and new spears I found a not hookup rectangular 30amp rated flasher unit behind the drivers kick panel? Anyone know what this was/is for... it can't be turn signals? Is this the emergency brake flasher? My car has the brake light on the dash light if the parking brake is pulled on.... it looks almost the size of a pack of gum (old school gum - LOL) or the ballast on the coil, but black... it has markings but I did not record them... almost looks to me like it was never hooked up and was installed there via the clip, it definatly is factory and don't ever look like it was removed...

    thank you,

You are likely looking at the parking brake flasher. If your car has that option, there should be a switch on top of the parking brake shaft which is wired to this flasher (Tung Sol 624 I believe). This is what make the parking brake light flash when the handle is pulled out. Later cars, starting in either 61 or 62 used a bulb in the dash with an integral flasher. If your dash parking light flashes now and this flasher is not connected, then someone has switched out to the later bulb with integral flasher.

Look at option page 107 in your AIM and you will see the details of this assembly.

Ok yes that is what is is for sure, now my question would be this, the car has 54k mile for sure, its a cascade green car (yes it was painted over in the red you see in my avatar. shes about 89?? serial so late production I would say the interior of the car is all black dash, and for sure the brake light is in the speedo unit. Is this possible, the switch on the brake unit is there and looks like it was rewired, could someone have switched the light to the speedo? Is the dash color correct... Green cars had Black dash? Or were there Green ones... as I said its got the flasher and it don't look used could they have stuck it here never wire it and someone hooked up the one in the speedo? I have the AIM will take a look... thank you,

Yes I see the details (forgot I had a AIM), hmm someone just unhooked the two wires and tape them together I plugged it back in works fine, well that is if you like the brake light flashing... maybe that's why they unhooked it... but heck its worth some points for sure!
