Doing a frame off on a 1969 convertible with side exhaust. The car is an original side exhaust car with correct transmission shim, correct filler panel, and N14 in white crayon next to build line number (both on panel behind seat and above the spare tire cover). Had the covers rechromed and they are beautiful (probably better than original). Does anyone have information on the color of black paint that was used between the fins? Thanks for any help. Steve

Re: 1969 N14 Side Exhaust Cover Question on Finish Between Fins
Hi Steve,
Here's are some pictures of the paint on a set of side exhaust shields I bought over the counter early in 1971.
The paint is a LITTLE darker than it appears in the pictures, but does display the 'facets' that catch the light. that you see.
If all other sources fail I believe the dark phosphate paint that Eastwood sells (10281Z) is a good alternative.

Alan

Steve, you may want to use a etching primer and paint does not like to stick to chrome plating. it will save you time down the road. careful taping will also be required.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Thanks for the information. I did a 'test section' on an extra center section and used 1/8 inch pinstripe tape and it worked out. I will just need a bunch of tape.
