C2 inner fender well to top surround panel junction

I'll be working on my 66 front end this summer, I've noticed several c2's at shows recently where the inner fender well to top surround panel juncture varied from almost touching (with just a bit of adhesive) to a junction that is up to 3/4+" high (noticeable flat area facing into the engine bay). In all cases the hood and surround panel fit well.
What causes the differences in the height of this joint and whats typical from the factory?

    Thanks in advance.

The top surround panel is aligned with the hood when it is bonded to the inner fender skirt so the thickness of the bonding material will vary depending on the variation from normal in the skirts, surround, and hood. So if your hood matches the surround and its original from the factory, everything is fine.

3/4 inch is way beyond TFP probably caused by a poor repair from an accident.

Thanks Russ and Stewart, I haven't looked at the rear of the skirt recently, I assume there must be some variation in how high the rear of the inner fender well can be mounted, since the front is governed by the bracket that reinforces the hood hinge mount area.
