72 Headlight Assembly

I am experiencing an interference problem on my 72. The front bumper brace/support that protrudes thru the bulkhead at the front of the inner fender well is hitting the mounting bracket for the headlight assembly. I am not finding enough adjustment to the brace to gain enough clearance. My question is, is it OK to shim the headlight mounting bracket to gain the clearance needed ?????

I have done several C3's and never got that pot metal horseshoe bracket anywheres close the the bumper mounting bracket/extension that bolts to the frame rail.

If that is hitting the the bracket then I would say your car is not centered correctly on the frame and/or the core support is not shimmed sufficiently between it and the front cross member.


not really sure -- can you post a good picture of whats going on?

Could you go into more detail on "not centered correctly". I don't fully understand what you are trying to tell me. Pictures are not practical due to lighting.

first question -- did you ever remove the body from the frame?
if not, then what I was asking about does not matter.

if you did --

the center line of the car body should be inline with the center line of the frame/chassis.
this way, the body is not more onside than the other.

if for instance the body was more to the right then there be a good chance the horseshoe mounting bracket could hit the bumper extension on the right side. etc....
