On the way home from our NCRS chapter meeting and lunch Saturday, I had to drive through a rain storm. Everything worked fine, except the convertible top, which was switched to the TFP "Kennedy Cut" front welt for Duntov judging, leaked like a sieve. What can I put under that welt to seal better against the windshield header and keep the water out? The car is retired from judging, and so no TFP worries anymore, maybe some foam rubber strip? Thanks for any tips, BTW, picture attached of some cars at the tavern in the mountains we met at.

Mike, do you have the front latches adjusted so they pull down the header all the way? If so go to Lowes or Home depot and see what you can find to lay across the header, my friend with a 63 found a 3/4 round piece of foam that work for him.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight. -

Mike, always carry duct tape for anti rain leaking control. As Ed said you can use a round piece of foam or a flat 1 inch plus wide of soft house window sealing on the windshield header trim.

Yes, it is, from Al Knoch and passed regional and national judging with no deducts, it just won't seal out water, as with many TFP things, they don't work the best in the real world.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New MexicoComment

These cars leaked when new so it is to be expected they will leak now. My car had a bend in the front bow which caused a gap in the middle of the window big enough to see light through. The bow had to be gently bent back to the proper position and it now seals much better (I haven't driven it in the rain but I am guessing it would still leak at least a little). The Kennedy cut refers to the size of the top material not the front welt it is a slightly larger cut. The welt can be ordered in two thicknesses and the correct one is the thinner size but my car leaked with either of the thickness until I bent the bow back to the proper shape.Comment

You're right about the Kennedy Cut, that is what my top is, but they gave me the thicker welt, so I used those magic words when I went to get the correct one, and they knew exactly what I meant.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New MexicoComment

Black vinyl electrical tape works wonders and the adhesive does not dry out or transfer. Start with a piece of tape on the top and half lap additional pieces forward until you get to the windshield glass. Been using this for years to rainproof my 60.Comment
