    C3 Rear Spring Center Bolt

Was the centre bolt cut off with something like bolt cutters? Would that be close to the original look or is there some other way to cut it off to make it correct.

    Thanks
    Sheldon

Sheldon, I'm thinking you forgot to mention ....."center of the ______"?

    I'm guessing.....Rear Leaf Spring bolt?

Whoops, yes the centre bolt holding the rear leaf spring together. It was cut off with something that left a ragged cut. I am wondering if bolt cutters would be somewhat similar or something else??

        Sheldon,

I use a hacksaw, leaving a few threads and then peen the end to prevent the nut from backing out. Not sure how it was cut originally. My guess is they simply snapped it off.

Also check the bolt head to make sure it's not too high. Replacements, even the GM part, have known to be a problem as they bottom out in the carrier hole. Best to measure and grind if necessary before installation.

I don't think it was usually cut off as close to the nut as pictured. However, it was definitely "chopped off", probably with something similar to a bolt cutter. They guy that would know, for sure, is Franz Estereicher.

Absolutely correct Joe. I did cut it a tad short. I found a shot of the "before".....

I wish Franz visited here. I met him years ago and he's quite a wealth of information.
