My 66 has the dark blue interior. I purchased and tested the rattle can dark blue from Corvette America and Long Island Corvette about 9 months ago. from a recent spray out test we decided to use the LIC dye to paint the dash, speaker grille and the lower windshield trim (the low gloss pieces). The CA dye/paint was very dark and just didn't look good against the new Al Knoch dash pads.
My problem is that I just reordered and got 4 more cans from LIC and it appears they must have a new supplier. The current 66 dark blue that I got yesterday is very dark, even to the point of being more black than blue and much darker than the older LIC dye/paint. Even darker than the CA.
I'm now considering getting some of Al Knoch's dark blue dye at $150 a quart!! I spoke to them today and they say it matches their vinyl. I'm installing all new Knoch interior because some previous owner had changed from correct dark blue to black.
They don't recommend using it on metal or fiberglass, but both CAs and LICs is labelled dye and is recommended for plastic, vinyl, metal, and fiberglass. From the research I'm done here and elsewhere what these vendors call dye is actually a paint.
Has anyone used Knoch's dye to paint the interior pieces, e.g. fiberglass dash, metal pieces, etc.?
Thanks,
