    Brian B.

Starting restoration on my 57 and hope to someday have it flight judged. If you were doing this would you powder coat frame ( and any other suspension parts) or would you just paint them? Just wondering if anyone has been penalized for powder coated parts or if it is worth the deduction.

Long time member, Brian, and your first post...welcome to the TDB!!! I have my frame powder coated (along with sundry other parts) and, YES, you will take a deduct in Flight judging...NTFP (not typical factory production. Enjoy the restoration on one of my favorite year Corvettes.

i have poder coated the last couple of c-1 and c-2s I've restored, then spray a thin coat of SEM semi-gloss black paint over the poser coating. chassis judges haven't noted the NTFP. i do so as paint alone will chip and then rust if small stones impact the paint. mike

If you are going to powder coat and don't want a deduction just be sure to tell the PCer that you want good coverage but not a thick coat. A thick coat looks much more NTFP as it fills too well.
