    66 327 block holes

Did GM put anything in either of these 2 threaded holes on the front of a 1966 327 engine block?

    Brian------

You bet they did! The upper tapping MUST have a short 3/8-16 bolt, installed with sealer. It goes through to the fuel pump push rod channel and will leak oil if it's not plugged with a bolt.

The lower tapping had no bolt installed.

No, it was a trimmed (i.e. "non-indented head") bolt. It was about 3/8" to 1/2" in length.

            Brian,
To add to what Joe said, those were used as engine mount holes on early C2 cars. The hole that needs to be plugged is for fuel pump installation. It holds the push rod up using a longer bolt so the arm on the pump can be placed under it. Using the wrong length bolt will damage the pump push rod.

The mounting holes were not used for C2 Corvettes. They were, however, used for C1 Corvettes and passenger cars through 1957.

                Joe,
Thanks for catching that, I don't know why I said C2 instead of C1.
