judging mid year trim tags with ECL codes

whats the procedure if the ECL code does not match the options present on the car.

case in point this car on Ebay

the ECL code is "BS" means the car was optioned with a M35, the car is presented as a L71. this car revived a TF in 02.

    Keith,

A lot can happen to a car in 14 years. A Top Flight, small block, Powerglide, might just grow up to become a 427/435 hp, 4 speed car.

Yes that can happen just as well but playing devils advocate what would happen if a car showed up like that?

I would think that the car would be judged as a Powerglide equipped car. It would also be judged as being originally equipped with an engine available with PG: so either a 427/390, 427/400, or 327/300. Determining which of these engines was originally installed would be a true sleuthing exercise, and could very likely lead to an inconclusive situation.

IF and only IF the proper mate to the PG can be determined, then all differences, missing items, modifications, and altered items between the original engine/trans team and the 427/435 with M21 would be deducted. If the car started as a 327 car, then it would possibly earn a Third Flight. If it started life as a 427 car, then I'm guessing that a Second Flight might be possible if all else is nearly perfect.

But does the team leader or judging chairman decode the code before the judging process?

I believe that the team leader evaluates the TT, which includes the ECL code.

+1, but that will be one very difficult conversation to have with the new owner of this one unless he/she is fully informed and knowledgeable about the problems here before they buy it.

+1, and the '67 Team Lead always seems to have the most opportunities........

Chapter event! I would question if it is a real certificate? I saw this car for sale one time and it appeared to me it was not a factory big block Corvette.
