I've read every thread on this many times (until my eyes glazed over) and maybe I now understand...maybe. The two lines below are copied from a Dave Luk. post and are the core reference.
The 1963 Corvette used 3 GM # 3795488 and 2 GM # 3816170 bolts on each hood hinge as per the AIM.
The 1964-1967 Corvettes used 3 GM # 3846201 and 2 GM # 3847758 bolts for each hinge as per the AIM's.
I knew where some of the 3847758 were used on a 64, lower hood hinge, door hinge, steering jacket to firewall, ete. Scott Smith gave me a comprehensive list and I think I have them in all locations. But mine have serrated washers leading me to read every post with a belief that this was correct for the 64 AIM and the 3845788 must have a serrated washer. All threads also conclude that the 63 lower (and upper for that matter) hood hinge bolt has a serrated washer. I never understood the difference between the 63 and 64 lower bolt unless it was length; I assumed both had serrated washsers.
But in recent discussions with Rich Pasqualone and Andy Cannizzo I've become convinced that many many 64s actually used the 63 bolt on a carryover basis which made a light come on...I don't have the 3847758, I have the 3816170 bolt as a carryover from 63...using up inventory for example. And I now think the 3847758 really may have a smooth washer and may even be 1 1/16 long and was used on 65 and later and some late 64s (despite being called for in the AIM for all 64s). Could this possibly be right? Alan Drake says he has smooth washers on his original 64 lower hinge bolts and his is a late 64; i thought this was incorrect but I'm now believing this might be right....probably is.
Also, AMKProducts has the 3847758 with a smooth washer and 1 1/16 long.
