I just bought my 64 convertible a couple months ago out of a barn in Mississippi where it spent most of its life and am now in the process of complete frame off restoration. My car is completely number matching, but I was told it is missing the idler pulley. From the pictures I've seen this idler requires 2 grooves in the crank and water pump pulleys, but my car only has single groove pulleys. My car was built in November 1963, could this be before the idler mod was developed?

Re: 64 L-76 idler pulley
There is an excellent picture in the 64AIM, sect L76 sheet2.00
That shows the double pulley at crank & water pump. The idler pulley is in view "A", if missing you will need a lot of small hardware.
Recommend some searches on the various small parts to tie down finishes, head markings, and so forth- Top

Re: 64 L-76 idler pulley
Thank you all for your responses. The alternator was changed as some point and it no longer has the correct pulley so I assume all the pulleys were changed to single and the idler removed then. The starter is the other accessory that doesn't match, but they're 50 year old electrical components and expected failure items. I'll be at Carlisle this year with my shopping list, which is growing as I approach the final stages of disassembly.- Top
