Re: 1962 Water Pump Gasket
John------
Are you talking about the pump-to-block gaskets or the rear plate-to-pump gasket? In any event, if the pump-to-block is what you're referring to, you can still buy the gaskets from GM under the original part number of GM #3754587. These will work as good as any and are what I've always used. Fel-Pro #5152 work well, too. However, these are blue in color.
For sealer I always use a very thin coat of RTV silicone sealer. I realize that C1's have a particular sealing problem with respect to these gaskets because of the involvement of the front engine mount. If you're concerned about judging considerations you have to be careful with the sealer. I don't think that any sealer was originally used and any "squeeze-out" will probably not be accepted by judges. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1962 Water Pump Gasket
Wouldn't it be great if GM or someone made a gasket for the water pumps with a bead of sealant on each side like the chevy top water outlet gasket from GM.
Although it's black it is my favorite gasket to use as most of the Fi baseplates I get in are pretty sad at the thermostat area.
That gaskets prevents leaks for sure.- Top

Yes, I wish such a waterpump gasket was made but I don't know of one.
The silicone-beaded thermostat gasket is GM #10105135.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1962 Water Pump Gasket
i've had extremely good results smearing a thin film of torque-lok gasket maker 5518 from kimball midwest on the 4 GM water pump gaskets, even on my SLIGHLY modified sbc in our white 57 FI(which turns in the high 12's with 6.70 x 15 bias belter cocker tires). power shifts are hard on the gaskets . haven't had to replace them for about 5 years. mike- Top
