Re: 69 Corvette - Ignition Lock System Sun Visor Sleeve?

    Hey Jeff:

    They are 5" X 8 1/4" ------ actually the 5" dimension is more like 4 15/16" if that makes a difference.....

One additional note: after reading the posts and digging up my original sleeve I compared it to the repros (several on e-bay). The repros are pretty easy to discern. On the blue side the words "ignition" and "system" are completely out of registration, i.e. not in a straight line with the letters being split and out of alignment along the right side of the red arrow. The information side also has some differences. They are a bit more discrete but again pretty easy to pick off if you look closely.

It is also interesting to note that the original sleeve has a part number of 3961390 and a date of 7-9-68 while the repro part numbers seem to all be 3961389.......but still have the 7-9-68 date on them.

    Regards
    Bill

      Bill:

      Thank you for posting.

Clearly, this is a very convoluted story that gets more confusing with each post.

Perhaps more posters will join in with information that will bring some clarification. One thing is certain: it is very fortunate to have a pictorial example of an original sleeve, at long last. These can't be very common.

Re: 69 Corvette - Ignition Lock System Sun Visor Sleeve?

Good evening. I have the original sleeve from my 1969 Camaro. It is part # 3964572 dated 10-2-68. This sleeve is very similar to the "573" sleeve (same printing) but looks to be about 2 inches shorter around. This sleeve (572) would fit the 69 Corvette visor like the Camaro visor (I measured) allthough this sleeve was closed loop and fit over the visor. Not sure on the corvette unless the sleeve was fit prior to visor install???

          Bill,
Thanks for the dimensions. That is exactly what mine is so maybe that takes size out of the equation for the difference in part numbers.

            Hi Pete:

Yes the sleeve was mounted prior to the visor install. In my case it was till in place when I acquired the car. I had to remove the visor to get it off in one piece. It was one of those things that you immediately recognize as being pretty rare to still be on the car......

Re: 69 Corvette - Ignition Lock System Sun Visor Sleeve?

Well, here's an original one that I've had stashed away for many years: 3961388; Dated 7-9-68; dimensions are roughly 5" x 6 1/4".

I always thought it belonged to an old '69 Corvette that I had that was built the first day of production. But with all the posts in this thread now I'm not so sure what car it belonged to....
