Just came back last night from Williamsport AACA Grand National. The Tahoe did make the trip thru the Pa hills but was in constant down shifting and loosing speed going up hills. The 5.3 engine towing package with 3.42 gearing is NG for pulling the white box. I would strongly suggest diesel or bigger engine. Unfortunate that no bigger gears or engine offered on Tahoe. A set of 3.73 or 4.10 would be better. Better yet GM needs to offer the 6.2 or add a diesel option. Be assured if GM does offer any of these suggestions the price tag will be hefty.

All this liter designation is sucky the 5.3 is like a 327 cubes. Defiantly not big enough to tow an enclosed trailer.

For once, maybe twice a year, I tolerate it, though the 6 speed in the 2013 is a lot better than the 4 speed in the 2003.
For frequent towing, you need more.

You have to decide what you really want, and what you really need.

If hills and mountains are not in your path and towing only 200 miles and only twice a year, then yes one could live with it. But one would expect more from a truck advertised to handle 8,000 lbs. Manufacturer greatly over exaggerated capabilities of towing pkg. A very liberal manufacturers specifications of it is disappointing when older trucks handled it and newer stuff does not..

In the end, it's all about stopping and control when you're put in a bad situation beyond your control. When towing, plan for the worst is the best and safest in the long run. Safety first! Everything else comes after safety. Regardless on the distance and frequency of use. JMTCW,

                  Re: Gas powered truck

I have been trailering racecars across our country for about 20 years. I started out with half ton trucks and open trailers. As the budget allowed, I got into bigger and better equipment.

The best move I ever made was stepping up to a GMC Sierra 2500HD Duramax truck. My current enclosed trailer weights in at #4000 empty. It never leaves empty. I am now on my second GMC HD and I can tell you it is a night and day difference in performance and safety when you step up to a capable truck. I look back at my first rigs now and wonder how I ever avoided catastrophic accidents

Another piece of advice: When shopping for a trailer, don't cheap out on trailer axles. Buy a trailer equipped with the biggest capacity axles you can get. You automatically get bigger bearings, Higher load rated tires and bigger better brakes. Brakes matter!!!!

As long as I tow, I will have a truck that is rated well BEYOND the CGVW of the entire rig.

I believe the difference between the 6.2 and the 6.0 is the torque . The HD with 6.0 has more than the 6.2 1500.

I tow my 20 foot enclosed trailer with my 62 aboard in a 2015 Sierra crew cab and all the towing stuff with a 6.2L and its a dream. Over Fancy Gap without a slowing down. Good gas millage and no questioning the 420HP / 460 ft lbs.
