    64' a/c compressor

    CASTING NUMBER ON MY 64' COMPRESSOR IS 6555302 BELOW THAT # IS R 9. IS THIS A CASTING DATE?. WHAT DOES THE R STAND FOR AND WHAT DOES THE 9 STAND FOR ?. THANKS IN ADVANCE. John Dumas (28024).

    John,
    I have seen the same on back plates but it is not the date. The date is under the manifold ports. Starts with a letter and then numbers. Last number being the year and the 2 after the letter being the day.

      John,
      Forgot to say that the letters are the Month, A being January and the letter I is used in the Month on compressors.

        Here's an example of the letter "I" (September 15th 1964) in an early 1965 compressor. Not sure what the R 3 casting means.

        Have no idea why the software turned the picture 90 degrees.
