The 3872608 waterpump casting was used for ALL 1968 Corvette small blocks----300 HP and L-79. External bypass type waterpumps for L-79 ended with the 1967 model year. External bypass for Corvette small blocks was never to be seen again after 1967. However, 1972-82 Corvette small blocks did use a waterpump with provisions for external bypass but it was unused and plugged.
