Driveshaft removal on 1965 3 speed HELP

Can someone explain to me how to remove the driveshaft on a 1965 3 speed car? I need to replace the u-joints.
Thanks in advance for your help, Bill

Haven't pulled a driveshaft out of a midyear yet but done it plenty of time on my C1 - prob the same procedure...
Remove the four bolts at the rear of the driveshaft at the pinion flange....then push the driveshaft slightly forward until the driveshaft can be dropped down past the pinion flange. Then pull rearward until the slip yoke comes loose from the transmission tailshaft. Be VERY careful to not let the slip yoke hit anything and ding it up. Then remove the driveshaft and put some tape around the U-joint bearing 'caps' until you are ready to R&R the U-joints.

Simply remove the two u-bolts at the rear axle and the 2 at the front yoke. No need to remove the yoke from the transmission.

Yep, take the nuts off the 4 u bolts, pop the u bolts out , take a screwdriver and pop the u joint out of the front yoke and pop it out of the rear end yoke , slide the tranny yoke farther into the tranny and the driveshft should come out

As Paul and Jim state, the trick is that the front yoke can be unbolted from the driveshaft and is then pushed further into the transmission tailshaft housing to provide the needed clearance to remove the driveshaft. Suggest using some WD40 and a good shop rag and clean off the exposed surface of the front driveshaft yoke and then coat it with Vaseline or light grease or oil when pushing in past the rear trans seal for clearance. This will help to keep from damaging the sealing surface of this old seal.

Work is tedious but doable............even without a lift. Rotate the rear wheels as needed to provide for the best access to the driveshaft front and rear yoke bolts.

Be sure to mark the drive shaft and yokes before removal so that you can put it back the same way it came out.

Agree. But the worst that can happen is the driveshaft gets reinstalled 180 degrees out. If you experience any vibration, rotate the driveshaft another 180 degrees back to original.

In the early days, I never did this and never had issues. But maybe I was just lucky.

It would be nice if those with no actual experience would not reply. Save it for the CF where the "internet experts" reply on everything with no knowledge.

You could easily have said the procedure is different on a C2 without being a pill...

I spent yesterday rebuilding a '63 steering box and installing it along with a new rag joint and tie rod ends onto my split window.
                        What were you doing ?

The typical arrogance that drives people away from this organization...
