    RC27 Radiator Cap (GM # 6410427) question

Was the RC27 radiator cap (GM # 6410427) ever a Corvette assembly line cap?
I have a RC27 cap stamped "AC". I also have seen RC27 caps stamped "TVS".

The cap listed in my 84-92 Corvette Parts Catalog (Oct. 1991) is GM # 6410785 (RC36) for 84 and 91-92 Corvettes.

I don't think so but I would not rule it out. This question is going to require some empirically determined information.

The problem here is that the AC Division of GM was notorious for using different GM part numbers for their parts used in PRODUCTION versus those sold in SERVICE. The parts, themselves, were usually identical at any given time and the AC "short number" (e.g. RC27) were the same but the GM "long numbers" were usually different. Why they did this I have no idea but that's the way it usually is with AC Division parts and it's definitely not limited to radiator caps.

      Joe,

My RC36 cap has a "TVS" stamping as well as a pair of small "ears" instead of the "AC" stamping. What manufacturer is "TVS"?

While it is located in the same position as the "AC" embossment, I don't think that "TVS" represents a manufacturer. My vague recollection is that it's an abbreviation for some sort of system-type. I could be wrong, though; I just don't recall for sure.

I was incorrect. TVS is a manufacturer's ID. It denotes the brand of Sundaram Industries. Sundaram is a major India-based automotive supplier that manufactures many parts for GM. In fact, many of the AC Delco boxes for radiator caps for the past 10+ years will read "Made in India".

I suppose that when the AC manufacturing division of GM essentially "dissolved" as GM started selling off, spinning off, or closing their various manufacturing operations new sources for automotive components had to be developed. Sundaram was the source, at least for radiator caps. I expect that the caps for current GM PRODUCTION applications are also manufactured by Sundaram. At least, if one sees "TVS" on them, one knows they are. Of course, by now GM may have licensed them to use the "AC" logo.

Thanks Joe. As usual you are a wealth of information.
