1994 ABS speed sensor

My 1994 LT-1 the service ABS and ASR light came on. I used a scan tool and it came up as ABS code 35 left hand rear wheel speed sensor fault. The ring inside is good. I called around to all my local parts stores and my local Chevy dealer with no luck. Is my only option used?

Well, it's not a part you want to need. The GM sensor, GM #10052273, is discontinued without supercession.

Federal Mogul/Wagner offers a replacement under their number AB130653. However, it's either been recently discontinued or it's on national backorder. You might want to contact them to find out if or when it will be available.

I don't like used for parts like this. These are life-limited type parts and there's no way to know how much life is left in one. But, as a "court of last resort", I guess used has to be an option. I'd want to find out first, though, if the Wagner replacement is gone for good or if it will be available again in the future.

Did you disconnect the sensor connector and measure the sensor with an Ohm meter? 900-1100 Ohms. If the resistance is OK, pull the sensor and check for metallic "fuzz" on the end of the magnetic sensor. Clean it off.

I've had better success with used OEM parts than I have with aftermarket Chinee junk like Dorman, B/W, etc. The OEM sensor lasted 22 years, and the other 3 are still working, so a replacement from a donor car will probably be fine too. You'll be replacing the Chinee part in 12 months, IF it even fits in the first place.

Do any other carlines use the same sensor? Knowing that would give more options for sourcing a used part. I have no idea if it is on other carlines.

I did pull the sensor to inspect the ring inside. The sensor did have junk on it. I cleaned it all off. And on when I drove it the service light stayed off and all seemed to be well. So due to fact there are no new replacements available and only used I am going to leave well enough alone until the light comes back on. And the sensor is Corvette only.

Keith, another common problem with GM wheels speed sensors can be rust build up on the mounting surfaces of the sensors, This sensors need a close gap to work. just a slight bit of rust will cause them to be erratic.

the housing it was attached to is aluminum and the sensor was corrored together causing it a pain to remove. I suspect this was part of the problem
