    Re: 1963 Survivor Exhaust

I have attached a few more photo's of the exhaust system. After reading the posts and reviewing the Judging manual I do not think that much of the system is original. I appears that the center support is original and some of the original grounding straps are still in place and salvageable.

        Rob,

From the pictures you show this is not a 63 exhaust system. The center hanger is from a 64 and up along with the rear hangers. What you have here is not a 63 exhaust system at all. The 63 car may have survived but the original 63 exhaust system did not.

Yes, JR, I agree, looks like the 64-67 center hanger.

Rob, For reference, some '63 hanger info Here. If you decide to, they are available in reproduction. Pricey, but available.

The car is a June '63 build and delivered in July '63. Does that make a difference in the hangers used?

Rob, I doubt it. I'd imagine when your exhaust was changed many years ago they upgraded to the "improved" hanger.

I has a Feb built '63 coupe and it also had the later hanger on it when I got it. I changed back to the correct hanger when I installed a new exhaust.

I installed a new exhaust system from Allen's but I question if they sent the right one. The intermediate pipes do not bend toward the center of the car. Is this system correct?

                  Rob:

You might want to look into the exhaust system that one of the long time vendors has available....

I have NO IDEA if it is correct but there is some information on the posting regarding 63 cars ....this item has been out there for some time..

Here is the link..... (The price is going to sting a bit ---maybe a lot) but if this is correct this "might" be a solution -----

1963-1967 Corvette 2 1/2" Off Road Welded Exhaust Pipes with Embossed Mufflers Genuine GM LH 3845735 and RH 3845736 NOS made in the USA; not reproduction and not imported. NOTE: off road exhaust can be installed on late 1963 models without the lowered under seat tool trays found in early 1963 models.

                  Hope this helps a bit....

                  Regards
                  Bill

                    Re: 1963 Survivor Exhaust

Thanks Bill, the survivor coupe that I have does not have the deeper/lower trays in the floor boards. My early FI coupe does and the exhaust narrows towards the center of the car to clear them. I thought I read somewhere that all '63's had the same exhaust system regardless of the build date.

The system that Allen's sent me does not narrow towards the center of the car. Before I start the car I want to make sure it is correct.

                    Thanks,

                    Rob
