    Antenna for '69 convertible?

    Hi all,

I need an antenna for my '69 convertible, and Corvette Central offers this one which they claim to be an 100% accurate reproduction:

Can anybody tell me if this would pass judging? From looking at some eBay listings for original antennas, the base on the reproduction seems like it might be slightly different. It is hard to tell, though, without having ever actually examined an original up close in-person.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
I believe member Jeff Salz sells an accurate reproduction antenna mast.
He frequents this Board so he may see your post.
If he doesn't perhaps you'd want to contact him.
    Regards,

My 1969 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Oct. 1968) lists the following antenna part numbers in Gr. 9.645:
      68-69 CORVETTE 987273
      69 CORVETTE 993633
GM # 987273 was removed from service in Oct. 1969.
GM # 993633 was removed from service in Apr. 1970.

The 69 Corvette AIM lists 3943654 as the antenna rod & mast part number.

These are SERVICE-only antenna UNITS which include the mast + other parts necessary for installation of an antenna on a non-originally-radio-equipped Corvette. The 987273 contains the 1968-style antenna mast which is incorrect for 1969's. I believe the 993633 does contain the correct mast, though.

The part number for the mast, alone, was GM #3943654. It was available in SERVICE until 1977 when it was discontinued and replaced by GM #370147. The latter is a similar mast and is 100% functional but differs from the 3943654 in minor but discernible ways.

Attached are photos of pertinent sections of an absolutely known-original 1969 antenna mast and nut [not for sale]. Pertinent dimensions of the mast are as follows:

          overall length (end-to-end)----------------------31.56"

          tapered section length----------------------------1"

          tapered section taper----------------------------0.25" to 0.37"

          "collar" length---------------------------------------0.25"

          "collar" OD------------------------------------------0.44"

          base (insert) length --------------------------------1.13"

          base OD---------------------------------------------0.315"

          ball (tip) OD-----------------------------------------0.30"

Note the "serrated" area on the bottom of the collar in the last photo.

            Alan,
Thanks for mentioning me but I no longer am making those antennas. My source for the cone base has gone and I haven't found a suitable replacement at a reasonable price for small quantities here in Detroit.

Thanks so much for all the input, guys, and to Joe especially for posting the pics and dimensions! Maybe I will order one of the Corvette Central reproductions and see how it stacks up to these measurements... if I do, I will post my results here.

              Thanks again, all!
