    Manual shifting automatics

Does it harm a powerglide, Turbo Hydra matic, or 700R4 to shift them manually as long as RPMs are kept in a safe range. Does manual shifting overheat a automatic transmission ?

    Re: Manual shifting automatics

If you downshift manually there will likely be more clutch wear, but whether it will cause issues while you own the car is dependent on the current condition of the clutches and the rate of mileage accumulation.

If you only upshift manually, there will likely be no effect.
