Re: NCRS "validation of tank sticker"

    Hi Richard,
Here's an example of the Order Number on a 71 tank sheet and the same number on the window sticker.
Might this be a later example of the IDENT# you describe.
I think for the 70-72 cars I'm familiar with it's one way to tie a tank sheet to a particular car.
    Regards,
    Alan

Re: NCRS "validation of tank sticker"

Thanks for the responses. So for $100, NCRS has, in essence, stated the records reviewed show that there WAS a tank sticker prepared with this Identification # on it. So if Lot 132.1 reaches its low estimate of $325,000, it will only be after the sale and IF the buyer receives the "validation" sheet that he will be able to turn it over and read "Unfortunately, the shipping report does not contain the vehicle options.".
Why do I suddenly think that this "validation" on its face should have a bold print warning about the "conditions and qualifiers" stated on the reverse page?

Re: NCRS "validation of tank sticker"

        Alan,
your IDENT number is 170533 which is the number on your window sticker in the upper right. The numbers you are pointing to on your paperwork is the order number. Your ident number on your tank sticker is torn off and found in the upper left hand box of the document.
If NCRS is using the GM in house numbers, which is what is generally accepted and what the Ident and Order numbers are, then they are probably using a report similar to the NICB report.

If they are only using this info, then the system is not absolute. If you have original documents with the original numbers, then you can have new repro documents made with those same numbers and it might pass.

i believe NCRS probably have a good idea of what the fake documents look like and hopefully compare it to known originals and weed out the repros even if they have the right numbers. At least I hope so. I know I can recognize the fakes due to having incorrect fonts. Even if they fix the fonts there are other indicators but I can only detect them by actually looking at the document with a magnifier. The original IBM 1403 printers used by GM to generate these forms leave certain marks I can recognize. Hopefully NCRS uses other criteria to validate as well.

In my experience with Mecum, the listed documents are all available to inspect before the auction. But if you think the whole thing is a hoax anyway, then nothing will satisfy you.

Alan, I'm not sure if the Order# is what the Validation Service uses. I think the IDENT# is on the Upper Right of that years's(1971) Sheet. 170533.

On a '67 TS it's in the upper left.
e.g.'s of real ones according to my records (Note HP typo for L71. S/B 435HP)
            ''

My records indicate this one was not real.
