    1970-72 Windshield Washer Pump

TMJ says " On all pumps, the inlet and outlets point to the side of the car; not up as in many replacements"

Is this saying that pic #1 is incorrect and #2 is correct?
If so, I have seen at quite a few cars with pumps as in Pic #1. The two articles in the winter "Restorer" on repairing the pump also have configuration as in Pic #1.

    Thanks for any clarification,

The pump on the right (picture 2) is a 1969 pump assembly. It has a 3 port pump and the pump pictured is correct for 1969.

I can't tell, for sure, what the pump on the left is. 1970-71 used a 5 port pump. The ports on the 5 port pump were not configured like the 1969 pump. I believe they were canted slightly downward or were straight. I don't recall which.

Thanks Joe, I appreciate the info as always.

I guess I was a bit confused by the wording in the TIM. I thought it was saying the inlets and outlets should point to the side, as in the second picture.

The ports are somewhat angled, so when installed they point towards the passenger side fender. If the ports were straight, when installed they would point towards the sky of the passenger side.

Thanks Mike for the illustration. I don't believe I've seen a 3 port angled like this...were any produced?

As always, there are photos of items like this in my album.
Note the as-installed appearance of the washer and pump.

This is an absolutely known original of my original owner 1969:

                Re: 1970-72 Windshield Washer Pump

Patrick, thank you very much for your photo. To me that looks like a "straight" washer port. I guess it "points" to side because of the orientation of the pump.
Joe, thank you also for your photo. That looks like a port that exits to the side. Obviously correct for '69 but not for '70-'72.

I think I've got the picture now, no pun intended!
                Thanks everyone for the help,
