My speedometer cable is making noise. It happens when the weather is hot - not much on cool mornings. What is the best way to lubricate the speedo cable? What is the recommended lubricant?

you will need to disconnect the cable from the speedometer head(backside of cluster). then pull cable itself from the cable housing. i use an ac deco grease made specifically for speedo cables. i estimate the age of the lubricant to be about 50 years old.i don't know if deco still sells such a product. mike- Top

Re: Speedo cable lubrication - C2
Do I have to remove the entire cluster to get at the back of the speedometer? I tried to do it from below but no success even with the front seat removed. I'm hoping there is some trick to this that will make it simple...- Top

Re: Speedo cable lubrication - C2
From what I remember you should be able to disconnect the cable at the back of the cluster without removing the instrument cluster. I would recommend that you disconnect the cable at the transmission also so that you can pull the cable housing back away from the cluster of forward so you can get the cable out.
I have used a product called Kable Ease. Goggle it for a vendor. I found it on the shelf at my local Ace Hardware store.

Re: Speedo cable lubrication - C2
go to hardware store and buy a 24" piece of 1/4" all thread. then cut it into 6" pieces. remove cluster screws one at a time then thread the 6" all thread into the u-nuts on the dash. do this to all the cluster attaching screws and replace them with your pieces of all thread. then u can slide the cluster rearwards enough to remove the speedo cable. mike- Top
