Ed -- I have two loose ones, and measuring one gives me 22_5/8" length from the looped wire at the forward end (where it goes over the pin) to the end of the plastic knob (facing the driver). My door has the pin assy. (for the cable) forward of the pivoting pins for the vent door, and the shorter end of that pin end faces up.

Just checked my P&A30B Jan '71 Corvette parts catalog, and the ('63-66 w/o A/C) left kick pad vent cable 3874729 shows as 22_1/8" length, so my measurement is probably not exact.

Thank you. That explains my problem. Don't know how or why my cable is only 15.75 inches long. It looks very original and unmolested; 22+ inches sounds about right. Interesting thing - the PO that did the frame off on my car sent me about 200 pics, before, during & after. And a pic of the interior drivers position clearly shows the left vent knob in the correct position very near the steering column. Strange - will never learn what went wrong. At least I got the installation of the door correct.

So, my next step is acquire a repro from a vendor and be sure it is 22+ inches long.
