It's exactly what I would expect and I have absolutely no doubt, whatsoever, that it's original to the engine.
That's good to know. I'm glad that I didn't throw it away because it was "incorrect!"

Just kidding, I wouldn't do such a thing unless there was no doubt whatsoever. I've been in the NCRS long enough to realize that we still don't know everything about these cars, and we need to keep an open mind when we see something unusual.

Nick I agree and thank you for reading this thread.

Mike Ernst makes a good point there maybe some early cars that have finned balancers.

Here are pictures from #8286. Finned balancer and timing chain cover, both dated.

The photos Mike has here don't appear to have balance weights in the holes neither. Does anybody have photos of a balancer in this time period 66-67 that has the hole weights?

Here's one such balancer as originally posted by Jeff Pollard in another thread on this subject:

            GM#3817173withweights.jpg

As I mentioned, not every engine required the weights. I think those receiving the weights were the exception and not the rule.

I don't know when this SERVICE instruction began but, at some point, GM instructed that when a balancer was replaced, weights should be added to the SERVICE balancer in the co-incident hole positions as the replaced balancer. I wonder how often this instruction was followed, or even recognized, even by GM dealer mechanics?
