    C1 jack paint

    Guys,

Looking for advice on semi gloss black to paint an original C1 jack. I searched the archives and found zip. jack is cleaned and ready to be painted. Thanks,

    John,

The Jack was not semi-gloss but was black gloss. But here's the catch! The Jack was dipped in a vat on an assembly line that just dunked the jack as it passed thru the paint vat. This allowed runs, drips and lots of dirt to attach itself. Also, as the paint aged and moisture set in it could become anything from gloss to flat. Just remember these Jacks were not show items soooooo!
If you want a Jack the way you wished it was, prime, sand and paint but if you want one the way it really was check out some original unrestored Jacks and you'll see the paint patterns.

      Joe,
Thanks for the fast reply. I was aware that they were dipped. Not going for a full restore on it to original. Just would like to paint it back to black and wanted to know sheen. Jack is a little rough anyways as it was pretty rusty. Have cleaned it up pretty nice and just want to spray it. Two questions now. Was the screw installed when it was painted? Any preference here on the gloss black paint brand to use? thanks,

The screw and the nylon washer were NOT painted and should be paint free.

My only advice is to use Krylon paints; they dry very quickly.....If you use Rustoleum; they take forever to dry and you cannot handle them until the next day....and Krylon does make a semi-gloss black. I used to buy it by the case...

            John,

Sorry but I don't know about the earlier Jacks but the C-2 Jacks were held to a trolley by the screw so there was coverage on some of the screw threads but not on the bearing.
