    1971 seat hardware finish

Just had Al Knoch install new leather skins on my seats. I would like to know the correct finish on the hold down that connects the seat back to the bottom. I am referring to the metal bracket that is connected to the flat steel band that is bolted to the bottom seat. I do not know the correct name for the part, but it is bolted, to the bottom seat with two screws. I am not sure if it should be black paint, black phosphate or natural finish.

    Thanks,

    Ken

Don't know if this will help you. I have two 73s. A early one which appears to be black paint and a April car which looks more like black phos.

I don't know why, but that hardware is rusty in many cars I see. Which is odd since it's well protected from the elements.

I have seen both finishes, painted and phosphate.

Often times, the GM specifications for a part like this will provide alternate finishes that can be used by the manufacturer. Black paint or phosphate are common alternatives.
