    1963 Restoration Battery

Just back from Auburn regional and they were taking 7 points off for case configuration. Seems like a lot of points for all that is left to buy. How many total points for the battery? Just spent $346 for one and now learn I will loose 7 points. Is there anything I can do to make the case like original? Thanks in advance.

Did you buy the real tar top variety? It is common for a 7 pt. deduct for non tar top restoration batteries. The battery and caps are a total of 25 originality points and 15 condition.

Pittsburgh Tri-State chapter had a judging seminar, etc last weekend. Our judging chairman passed out copies of the standard deductions. We discussed batteries extensively.
Best deal going is like Dr. Mike said. 50% deduct for a current DR battery (if you can find one).
It 's all spelled out there Jerry.
I have a rebuilt Tar top for my 63. Haven't put it in yet though. Need help from my strong son. John

I replaced my NAPA Legend battery with an AC-Delco last December before judging (about $100)...I don't mind spending some money to get a fair payback on points...but I had my correct alternator rebuilt and snagged a correct fuel pump for what that stupid restoration battery would have cost me. I lost 12 points on the AC-Delco generic version...
