Rebuilding YH carb while on the car

The side draft carbs on m 54 Vette were rebuilt a couple of years ago but from sitting around and stale gas they need to be gone through again. It is a real pain to remove them from the intake so I am planning to rebuild them on the car. Has anybody else done this, and if so what were your results? All of the important parts seem to be able to get to by removing the top plate of the carb.

I did it many times when I had my 54. I was constantly replacing the vacuum diaphragms. I had no problems.
