Re: Is this a correct C3 License Plate Frame?

    Hi Jimmy,
All 70-72 cars had the center egg-crate grill. It was a painted un-chromed casting.
The bracket for the front license plate mounted to the heavy center bumper brace.
Here's a picture of the grill and then the installed grill and bracket.
    Regards,
    Alan

    The center grill.

      Thanks Alan,
As always great pictures and detailed explanation. Were the plate brackets installed on all the cars at the factory? It's hard to notice the center grille behind it when looking at the front of 70-72's that's why I wasn't sure if they had one.
      Thank You,
      Jimmy

The 70-72 is a superfluous part, since it's covered by the license plate. I'm surprised Chevy didn't omit it to save $.

Years ago, I saw a Corvette this vintage with the license plate bracket removed and the center grille relocated forward to line up with the side grilles. It looked great.

As I recall, the mounting method was simple: The original attachment screws were replaced with ones several inches longer. These were placed inside sleeves that acted as spacers between the back of the grille and the threaded mounting holes.

It gave the 70-72 a look similar to the 73-74 with center grilles... but with chrome bumpers
