Is the nut plate only for 1963? I bought the same GM nut plate that you have pictured to repair my original 1964 Corvette oil pan that has a leak at the oil pan drain.

    Thanks,

    James
James, I believe it went into 64 and beyond but I don't know the crossover date to the welded nut.

I think the nut plate use extended well beyond 1963. My 1969 oil pan has the nut plate. In any event, the nut plate can be used to repair any Corvette oil pan and no one will ever know the difference.

Where could I obtain such a nut plate? Or, would one have to fabricate same -- 1/2-20 UNF threadform, I assume.

        Thanks
        Jeff

          Jeff-------

The GM flange plate, GM #3723008, was discontinued almost 3 years ago. You might still find some on eBay, though. Otherwise, it's very easy to fabricate out of steel stock. The plate was 1-3/8" X 7/8" X 5/16". The tapping in the center was, indeed, 1/2-20.

            Re: C2 _ oil pan (?) leak

The leak was a self inflicted wound. For whatever reason, I had rubber caps on both the oil fill tube vent and the rear draft tube vent. This was apparently the source of the pressure that was causing the leak.

I measured the pan and it fits the "new" dimension. The gasket that was leaking was the part number for the "old" dimension pan, but that part number had worked fine previously. So, I bought the part number for the "new" dimension pan; installed it; and it still leaked. After scratching my head for a while, I noticed that the vents were capped. The leak disappeared after I uncapped the vents. At least for my particular set up, the gasket thickness doesn't appear to be critical, but open vents sure are. I'm still not sure why I capped the vents. In a brain-dead moment, I must have thought I was preventing a vacuum leak while I was working on the distributor and timing.

Thanks for all of the help
