part number question for Joe Lucia

Joe , I will be going to spring Carlisle next week and two things I will be looking for are nos ignition switch for my 59 &63. The Delco numbers I come up with are 116650 (63-64) 116547 (59). Are they correct ?

    Thanks Bob

Well, almost. You dropped a "1" in each part number. The 1959 switch is GM #1116547. The 63-64 switch is GM #1116650. The 1116650 was discontinued more than 35 years ago. Finding one of those will be tough and, most likely, expensive.

By the way, a 6 digit part number for a Delco-Remy part indicates a REALLY old application, like back to the 30's and 40's.

I should also have mentioned that unless you're after 100% originality, you can use a Delco #D1473F for the 1963 application. This switch is also known as GM #89058107. It costs about 20 bucks. It's very similar to the original switch in configuration. This switch is manufactured by Standard Motor Products and, if you buy it under their number US26, you can get it for about 10 bucks.

Bob - In addition to the 2 p/ns you have listed, you might also keep your eye out for a p/n 1116635 ignition switch. That is the p/n of the original
1963-64 Corvette ignition switch that was installed in Production. But as Joe indicated, the switches you are looking for are getting difficult to come by. Pete

Yes, the original switch was GM #1116635. It was discontinued in July, 1966 and replaced by the GM #1116650. How the two differ I do not know. However, the 1116635 having been discontinued 50 years ago will make finding an NOS example quite challenging. Making matters worse, this was a Corvette-only switch (as was the 1116650, too).

Joe - Interestingly, as far as I know the 1116650 was used originally on 1964 Buicks. Pete

Yes, as far as Chevrolets go, it was Corvette only. However, it was also used on all 1964 Buicks.
